Giftbase File Export Utility #1
Giftbase 1.1 Export Mailmerge File to Word Perfect 5.0 Secondary File
PURPOSE
Giftbase exports files to a "generic" format that can be used by PC Write
directly, or by other Word Processing programs after conversion to the
format they expect. This utility program was written to convert the
Giftbase output file to an ASCII file in the Word Perfect secondary file
format.
INSTRUCTIONS
Go to the Giftbase External menu and export your file using either the
Master File Mailmerge program (to create GBMASTEX.TXT) or Gift File
Mailmerge program (to create GBGIFTEX.TXT).
Place GB2WP5.COM in the same directory as the above file.
You will be asked for the name of the input file name. If you press enter,
GBMASTEX.TXT will be used. You can override the name of the file if you
want.
The user is next prompted to give the name of the output file to use. If
you press enter, WP5DATA.TXT is used, but you can also override that name
if you want.
RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
Type GB2WP5 at the DOS prompt. It will read each record in from the input
file and write a new record to the output file.
After the program finishes, the WP5DATA.TXT file should be examined for
accuracy and edited with a text editor if necessary, and then placed in the
Word Perfect 5.0 directory. You are now ready to go into Word Perfect and
read this file into the document that you plan to use as your "Secondary
File" in the Merge process. Do this with CTRL-F5, Text, Retrieve, and then
the filename, WP5DATA.TXT. Save the file under another name, such as
WP5DATA.WP in normal Word Perfect format. You are now ready to merge. See
the Word Perfect documentation for details on the creation of your form
letter (primary file) and the actual merge process.
